Welcome to the official page for the Biology Graduate Student Society (BGSS) at Temple University! The BGSS was first formed to help foster a sense of community and increase research awareness among faculty, graduate students, and staff in the Department of Biology. In addition to a variety of social activities, we provide a comfortable atmosphere for graduate students to present and discuss their research through such forums as a graduate-student-only seminar series and monthly coffee gatherings.  A major goal of the BGSS is to facilitate travel opportunities for graduate students to present their research at scientific meetings.  This allows graduate students to network with peers and professionals and promotes awareness of research activities at Temple University.

Our Mission

The BGSS is established for the expressed purpose of developing professional and leadership skills as well as encouraging students to participate in public outreach. The BGSS will provide informational events, social activities and an outlet for student concerns. A goal of this organization is also to increase awareness in departmental research, as to foster a sense of community among department faculty members and students. Other areas of focus shall include helping the biology department to effectively recruit students of diverse backgrounds and to raise awareness of the importance and significance of biological research in today’s world.
